MYOFASCIAL RELEASE + DEEP TISSUE THERAPY
Myofascial release and deep tissue therapy are such great tools and modalities that are used during your Myotherapy treatment.
Your treatment will involve a slow and thorough unwinding of tense and dysfunctional tissue. Each stroke is purposeful and works to reduce pain and fatigue, improve mobility and restore functionality throughout the area and the body as a whole. Fascia is a complex tissue system encompassing the whole entire body, muscle bundles and the muscle fibres themselves. Fascia is a sheet/ band of fibrous connective tissue that encompasses, separates or binds together muscles, organs, and also other soft tissue structures of the body. Fascia can contract, relax and move on its own, making it an extensive sensory organ that can be found intertwined throughout the entire body. It forms webs under the skin to attach, surround, separate and stabilize muscles and organs, showing that it is a very important structure throughout the body.
Pain can often be over an injury site, however, as it affects the whole kinetic chain, the pain someone is experiencing can often radiate away from the injury site to different areas of the body.
Our myofascial release is applied to work from the superficial layers down, which helps to mobilise, release, break up adhesions and solidified, immobilised fascia and tissue, and restore mobility in the body. Without starting superficially on the fascial layers of tissue, the effectiveness of the deeper bodywork for anyone is diminished, and most likely won’t achieve long-lasting relief and release.
The myofascial release allows us to then go deeper into the tissue, with the deep tissue techniques properly penetrating the tissue deeply and slowly, to unravel the tissue, and desensitize the nervous system, without over stimulating it.
Myofascial release, deep tissue therapy, and the techniques used during your Myotherapy treatment, are well known in reducing nervous system sensitivity, therefore decreasing the pain response within the body, provide a nurturing space for the body to unwind and therefore let go of contracted and spasming muscles and connective tissue, provide stress relief, and restore the body to a more functional mechanically effective state.
Some of the conditions that benefit from our myofascial release and deep tissue therapy include:
- Neck pain
- Carpal tunnel
- Tennis elbow
- Ongoing lower back pain
- Muscular soreness
- General aches and pains
- Headaches
- Sciatica
- Frozen shoulder
- Hip pain
- Injury prevention
We combine, as an individualized approach for the client, our myofascial release and deep tissue treatment techniques with a variety of other techniques if needed such as dry needling, joint mobilisation, rehab, functional training, and more.
